Red Laced Wyandottes were developed in the late 1800's and are a gorgeous dual purpose bird. Available in 3 colour variations(Blue, Black, & Splash), birds feature rich mahogany-red feathers edged with Blue, Cream, or Black lacing.

Appearance & Characteristics

Each feather displays a stunning laced pattern. They have rose combs (low-profile combs that resist frostbite), yellow legs, and a broad, well-rounded body shape.

Wyandottes are considered dual-purpose birds - they're good layers AND provide a decent amount of meat if needed. Hens typically weigh 6-7 pounds, while roosters reach 8-9 pounds.

Egg Production

Red Laced Wyandottes are reliable layers of large beige eggs. You can expect 4 eggs per week, totaling approximately 200 eggs per year. They continue laying reasonably well through winter months, unlike some breeds that slow significantly in cold weather.

Hens typically begin laying around 20 weeks of age. They can occasionally go broody and make good mothers if you want to hatch chicks naturally.

Temperament

Wyandottes are known for being calm, and friendly, making them excellent for family flocks. They're generally confident birds that aren't overly flighty.

They do well in mixed flocks and get along well with other breeds, typically being mid-flock in the pecking order.  our Roosters are freindly and courteous while vigilant in their job of protecting their ladies. Due to their devotion to protect their hens, they can have difficulty sharing their flock with other rooster but are usually not aggressive toward humans when properly raised. Temperment is a big focus for us, and we will never breed a rooster with aggressive behaviour.

Cold Hardy Excellence

Originally developed in New York State, Wyandottes excel in cold climates. Their rose comb is less susceptible to frostbite than single combs, and their full, fluffy feathering provides excellent insulation. They're a perfect choice for Canadian winters while still tolerating summer heat well.

Care & Maintenance

Wyandottes are very hardy, low-maintenance birds suitable for beginners:

- Feed: Standard layer feed (16-18% protein).

- Space: 4-5 square feet per bird in the coop, 10 square feet in the run

- Housing: Standard coop with good ventilation. They handle confinement well but enjoy free-ranging.

- Health: Robust and healthy with proper care. Watch for typical chicken health issues.

Life expectancy: 6-8 years with proper care.
